Dear Members,

On behalf of Office Bearers of Gujarat State Branch IMA, we wish A Happy New Year to you and your family members. Festival of Diwali is now over and all of you must have enjoyed the Festival of Light.

We wish that coming New Year brings Lots of Joy, Happiness and Prosperity in your Life.

Countries all over the world are enacting laws to protect doctors and health care professionals. A new legislation even has been enacted in Australia (State: Victoria) to prevent assault against Health Workers.

Taking the ‘Dilli Chalo’ Movement forward, the IMA Central Working Committee meeting held on 23rd & 24th, September, 2017 at New Delhi, ratified the decision of the Indian Medical Association to hold a Dawn to Dusk fast throughout the country on 2 October, 2017, Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. The day is also observed by the United Nation as the International Day of Non Violence.

The fast was a move towards drawing the attention of the Government and the General Public against Violence in Hospitals through this peaceful protest. IMA also wants to reinforced its demand for a Central Hospital Protection Act and the Implementation of the Inter-Ministerial Committee Recommendations, which were the result of persistent efforts of IMAwith the Central Government Ministry for last Two years.

All the 115 Local Branches of Gujarat State Branch IMA, observed a fast and protest on 2 October, 2017. A special General Body Meeting by all the 115 IMA Local Branches were organized during the same day all over Gujarat and passed a resolution with letters addressed to the Hon’ble Prime Minister were released to draw his attention to important issues. These issues need to be solved to make health care accessible and affordable to all by joint efforts.

Once again we appreciate and congratulate all the IMA leaders and IMAmembers for taking part in IMAfast and protest all over Gujarat.

IMA Congratulate Dr Soumya Swaminathan on her appointment as WHO Deputy Director General at WHO (World Health Organization). This is yet another feather in the cap of a brilliant career richly strewn with numerous awards and achievements. She is first Indian to hold this prestigious position,.. indeed a happy and a proud moment not only for the medical fraternity but also for the entire nation.

Under Digital Mission Mode Project, the Medical Council of India (MCI) is implementing a new Indian Medical Register (IMR) through UPRN (Unique Permanent Registration Number) generation for each registered doctor in India.

On implementation of the system, the existing registration numbers of the doctors shall be migrated to a standard system of UPRN. Doctors shall also apply online for additional qualification registration in IMR like postgraduation, super speciality etc. This system can be used to make online applications for services like issue of certificates etc.

Annual conference of Gujarat State Branch IMA, ‘GIMACON-2017′ is organized by Ahmedabad Medical Association on 18th and 19th November, 2017 at Ahmedabad. Final preparation is going on to make this conference, a memorable one with great scientific feast and entertainment event. During this conference, we felicitate and give awards to IMA Local Branches and individual members, who did outstanding work.
