Leaders may come and leaders may go from Indian Medical Association. However the National and State leaders through their leadership qualities inspired me to think of various ideas which I could deliver for the members who trusted me and gave this responsibilities with great expectations.

Continuous enhancement of our own scientific knowledge along with good communication skill is the need of today. I request all the branches to organize more CMEs and workshops. I appeal to all of my colleagues and fellow IMA members to participate in Accredited Scientific Programmes.

Even Medical Council of India, code of Medical Ethics, Section 1.2.3 says A Physician should participate in professional meetings as part of Continuing Medical Education Programmes, organized by reputed Professional Academic Bodies or any other authorized organizations.

To deliver the best to our IMA members, IMA Gujarat State Branch has started to prepare the list of faculties – subject wise. Please inform the office regarding the good faculties. I request the local branch Presidents and Hon. Secretaries to take advantage of this. I sincerely appeal to all the members to join IMA Knowledge – a scientific portal – an initiative of IMA HQ. This has many advantages for us. The major advantage is digitalization of all records with online credit of credit points. Each registered medical practitioner will be given his own login id & password.

Members can view their points from his own account. Member can send the relevant news, case reports, scientific materials for the portal. Congratulation to IMA Vadodara Team for initiation of awareness amongst its members regarding this Data Updation and IMA Knowledge portal.

This year, we have planned many state level programmes in different parts of Gujarat. The first on Medicine and Law is schedule on 01 February 2015. Many IMA Members from the different parts of Gujarat have registered for this.
The second state level programme is schedule on 08 February 2015. It is the Half Marathon hosted by IMA Vadodara. The details of which are given in this bulletin. I request the other bigger branches to come forward to organize state level progammes on the topic concerned to all for the benefit of our IMA members.

The recently concluded NATCON is an example of what Work can do.To Gather very one chieves ore. We have seen the result of Team NATCON especially Dr. Anil Nayak, Dr. Mahendra Desai, Dr. Bipinbhai Patel, Dr. Jitendra N. Patel, Dr. Kamlesh Saini & many more under the able leadership of Dr. Jitendra B. Patel. Everyone, who attended the conference would never forget the hospitality and love showered on them. We are indeed grateful for their love and affection. We all have relished the educative and interesting scientific feast along with the entertainment programmes.
I had privilege of attending the meeting with Mr. Anil Mukim, IAS, Health Secretary. On behalf of IMA Gujarat State Branch we represent to form a liason committee which meet once in a month or two and exchange their views on various health issues for the betterment of society. In my last month’s communication, I have given my priorities for the entire year. Myself and my team is working on it. What we require is your active involvement, your active participation. Do give your feedback, suggestions to us.

At the end, I would like to complete my message by quoting

I am extremely happy to make my first communique to the medical fraternity of Gujarat after being elected as President of Indian Medical Association, Gujarat State Branch. As a humble soldier of our community I, certainly feel honoured of being a President of a very credible and outstanding organization which has rendered valuable services to the people of Gujarat.
I am a humble grass root worker of IMA, serving this beloved Association for more than two decades. Your heart warming and unflinching support has put me on the chair of President, IMA Gujarat State. I do not know whether 26 December 2014, will go in the history as a red letter day or not, but I am sure that the history of Indian Medical Association, Gujarat State will remember this day as an evidence of our mutual love & brotherhood. I am over whelmed by feeling of joy and gratitude as all of you have elected me unanimously for the President of IMA Gujarat State for year 2014-2015.

I am thankful to my home branch, Vadodara for nominating my candidature. I cannot forget the whole hearted support and constant encouragement given by my IMA Vadodara Branch. I am proud of my branch. This year, President and all six Vice Presidents of IMA Gujarat State were elected unanimously. This gives a strong

message that during this turbulent time of medical fraternity, we are all united. At IMA HQ also the Presidents and Vice Presidents are elected uncontested. For the year 2014-2015, Dr. Mansukh Kanani and for the year 2015-2016, Dr. Shailendra Vora are elected as National Vice President of IMA HQ. I congratulate both of them. We must congratulate our own a doyen of Indian Medical Fraternity for being unanimously elected as President of World Medical Association. It is a big achievement as an Indian we should be proud of him and
especially when he belongs to Gujarat.
I know it well that I can not carry forward the challenging tasks my predecessors have taken up, without the candid support of my fellow members of this August institution. All new Presidents come with new ideas and thoughts and are successful to implement so as to bring Gujarat State Branch of IMA as one of the leading branches of India.

Hope, you must updated your knowledge on Swine flu. Swine Flu is extending its wings and is now in Epidemic stage. This year, up to 12 February only in Gujarat 117 people died due to Swine Flu and 1233 cases have been identified. As we are in medical profession, it is our duty to stop or control this epidemic and help the Government and Society by what ever way we can. Indian Medical Association, Gujarat State Branch along with Health & Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Gujarat organize many district level programme for awareness and information of our members. If any district has not organized such programme, please so. Be vigilant, pick up the cases in early stage and refer it to the designated hospitals. Your co- operation is very much needed. Let us hope with for improvement in condition with gradual decline in cold.

14 & 15 February IMA Gujarat State Branch was fortunate to host the President, World Medical Association, Sir Dr. Michael Marmot, is on the visit of one of the tribal areas of North Gujarat. He saw the changes in the villages, changes in the people which are the results due to IMA’s initiative – ‘Aao Gaon Chalen’. Our visionary leader Dr. Ketan Desai is himself looking after the project in this area and taking personal interest in the upliftment of the tribal people. This is the single project which has changed the IMA’s image in the society. We earnestly request all the local branch Presidents and Hon. Secretaries to adopt at least one village and start doing activities. The restructured uniform project is being given in this bulletin. Dr. Sunil Acharya from Deesa is assigned to monitor this project. Please report to us . Your suggestions are most welcome.

This year’s first ever state programme “Medicine & Law” was extremelycsuccessful. More than 180 IMA members across the Gujarat attended it at Vadodara. We congratulate Team IMA Vadodara for successfully organizing the programme on behalf of IMA Gujarat. The second such State Programme is on 5 April 2015 at Surat on – Rational use of Antibiotics”. The aim of this programme is that our IMA Members will get the knowledge & uplift their skill from the invited National speakers. We request the other big branches to come forward for hosting such programmes like Disaster Management, Communication Skill and Care for Elderly. We at local branch level organises the scientific programmes. We request to keep the scientific programmes on the subject like Pharmaco-vigilence,Post Polio syndrome, Disaster Management, Medicine and Law, Communication Skill, Leadership qualities, Ethics and behavior, Mental health, Diabetes and blindness prevention, Nutrition and public health, Child sexual abuse, Vector borne disease control programme, Maternal mortality etc.

IMA HQ organized State President and State Secretaries meet at New Delhi. Many projects and schemes were discussed. During two days of Marathon Meeting, a clear cut guidelines is given to all states. We are sure you will all give me full support to implement them. We have also planned such meeting of Gujarat Level.
Settings goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible. We have set our goal, now it is up to on us to turn invisible in to visible results. We once again request all of you to start taking part in IMA Activities. Give only one hour to IMA in a week and see what we can do.
